Isn't that U.S. figure of 208 for suspected cases under the old parameters? Is it really true that none of them has recovered?

This story reports an apparent recovery: In N.Va., A Perilous Medical Journey Training and Luck Helped Stop Virus . And it sounds as if this victim, like the man in Goa, was not contagious.

The US is reporting 38 probable, but WHO is still carrying the 208 number, as of yesterday. If we use the US figure, and put in today's Hong Kong figures, the death rate worldwide is 5.5%, at this time.

I don't like the fact that the Toronto strain of SARS is far more deadly than the Asian strain. It's not that far to Buffalo, New York from there.

It's possible that the death rate in Canada is higher because we're getting inaccurate figures from Hong Kong and China.

SARS now a threat to young: MD: As the virus mutates, it appears to be gaining potency, specialists note.

Nobody trusts the numbers from China, although Hong Kong has been very aggressive in how they've handled this.

But there's no reason to doubt the numbers from Singapore. It seems as if Canada has the worst strain we've seen so far.

From the Hindustan Times:

Saudi Arabian Airlines on Tuesday indefinitely suspended flights to Singapore over fears of the spread of SARS.

The kingdom last Sunday barred entry to nationals of China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and Vietnam.

True. It's only 88 miles to Niagra Falls and 21 more from Niagra Falls to Buffalo per my road atlas. I looked this up / posted this yesterday when someone on another thread was taking solice in the fact that Toronto was isolated from other population centers within Canada.
